Viva Mexico and its culinary art!
Hispanic Heritage Month is from September fifteenth to October fifteenth, including the national day of Mexican independence on September sixteenth. It is a time to get along with our families to rejoice one of the vital emblematic traditions and where delicious Mexican dishes with a robust historical representation are enjoyed.
Here is a bit of about Mexican history and its culinary art!
Mexican History
Mexican dishes have their origins in Mesoamerican times, with a wide selection of dishes that as a rule included corn, chili peppers, beans, pumpkins, avocado and nopal or prickly pear.
Through the colonization, recent ingredients equivalent to black pepper, anise and cinnamon were delivered to these lands. Meats equivalent to chicken, beef and pork were also added. That is how a mix between Mesoamerican and European cuisines was created, with an incredible number of ingredients that provide the large diversity of Mexican dishes we will proceed to enjoy today.
It’s with great pride that we rejoice this national month! Mexican flags, balloons, flowers, streamers, typical Mexican costumes and mariachi music are at all times essential. And, above all, the cry of “¡Viva México!” (Long live Mexico!).
Our Food
The mixing between Mesoamerican roots and the Spanish culture brought great diversity to Mexican cuisine. Because the centuries passed, we got here to attain such an in depth and varied cuisine that today it is taken into account an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
Pretty much as good Mexicans, having fun with traditional dishes equivalent to chiles en nogada, pozole, tostadas, pambazos, etc. is a must. But while you live with diabetes, food will be difficult to navigate and we must plan upfront and pay close attention to the ingredients we are going to select. We all know this will be quite a headache, but don’t worry because your diabetes can also be invited to our Independence Day party. You may and will still enjoy your traditional cultural dishes!
